Santa's Christmas Tree Village

Today I attended Santa's Christmas Tree Village in Rochester. Santa rode in on a fire truck for his grand entrance!

Inside, there was pictures with Santa, crafts for kids & thirteen trees decorated (very beautifully) by non-profit organizations from Rochester. All of the trees are being auctioned and the proceeds go toward the Lion's Club of Rochester. Santa's Christmas Tree Village is going on every weekend from now until December 21st--I'll be returning soon as Santa's Helper :-)

Hugs from Santa!

Congrats to the new Miss Capital City, Katie LaRoche!

Brenna and my sister Christina.

Much love for Miss Tip of the Mitt.

On Sunday 11/22 I attended the Miss Capital City pageant. There were so many contestants--so many TALENTED contestants! I was very impressed. My sister Christina competed and she did awesome.

Also known as 'Miss Michigan Guru' or 'KoKo,' here is the legendary Doug King before his surprise appearance in the opening number.

Miss America, Miss Michigan, and Little Miss Michigan!

The new Little Miss Michigan, Sabrina Jeffrey.

On Saturday 11/14 I attended a Miss America filled day in Muskegon. First Katie Stam, Miss America 2009 spoke for two hours in the morning. I was enthralled! Her journey was so interesting to me! Later in the day it was time for the Little Miss Michigan pageant--congrats to our winner, Sabrina Jeffrey. Then we got to see Nicole's wardrobe for Miss America--emceed by Katie Stam. Nicole looked confident and beautiful in her wardrobe. I can't wait to see her perform at Miss America!

24th Annual Student Leadership Conference

This weekend I've been invited to be a Conference Advisor and a guest speaker at the 24th Annual Student Leadership Conference in Bellaire, MI. There are nine high schools representing their own chapters of Students Leading Students. All of these students are dedicated to promoting healthy, positive lifestyles among their peers.

DAY ONE
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH
Today we had some meetings and got to know each other. I'm so excited for the conference! My main objective as a CA is maintaining safety of the students and integrity of the conference.
With the members of the Student Advisory Board.

DAY TWO
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH
Today was a fast-paced day filled with many interesting speakers, student presentations, and more! One speaker was Mike Skupin, who was on Survivor Australia. He had a great motivational presentation--then later in the day, he organized a bug/fish/animal cartilage eating contest.

Happy attacked Matt Marshmellow and myself...we weren't SLS inspirizzled enough!
Happy, the SLS mascot.

DAY THREE
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH
Today was also filled with guest speakers and activities. At night, there was a dinner where all of the advisors were honored, awards were presented and we listened to a few guest speakers. I had the honor of being one of those speakers. I really enjoyed addressing this group of high school students about my platform, Empowering Youth--which is the very thing this group is dedicated to doing! I had a great time at the conference this weekend--thank you to everyone at SLS for everything you do to encourage youth leadership!

Driving skills for life challenge!

Waterford Optimist Club

On Thursday 11/5 I spoke to the Waterford Optimist Club about my platform, Empowering Youth. I presented an overview of my Paper Pals program--an early drug prevention program for kindergarten students.

In my two visits to Optimist Clubs in Oakland County I've noticed two consistencies: they meet bright and early (7:00 am) and are a lively group of people who are always upbeat and happy!

Thanks to Debbie B. for inviting me!

Children's Miracle Network Torch Relay

On Sunday 11/1 I walked in Detroit's Torch Relay for CMN with my teen Haleigh and other members of our Miss MI family. It was a great fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network! I had a lot of fun catching up with everyone and raising money for this great cause. It didn't hurt that we had a perfectly sunny day in D-Town!
