Santa's Helper

On Saturday, December 19th I was Santa's Helper at the Christmas Tree Village in Rochester. This event was a fundraiser for the Rochester Lion's Club. I had so much fun with the kids--this was my last Christmas event for the year and a great reminder of what Christmas is all about!

Clarkston Parade of Lights

On Saturday, 12/12 I was in the Clarkston Parade of Lights with my teen! It was freezing & fun ...we even had Christmas light crowns :-()

Every day I thank God for all that I have been given--that's something I've always done, Miss Oakland County or not. Being a titleholder and having the opportunity to reach people is just another reason to be thankful. Remember to tell people you love them and give big, big hugs! I'm dedicating this post to my girl Natalie: remembering you today & every day (4/4/88-12/16/08)

Masonic Temple Christmas Party

On Sunday 12/6 I attended the Masonic Temple Christmas Party. I had a lot of fun caroling with the kids and hanging out with them all day. We played games, sang & danced, and had a great time. It was so cool to watch them open presents--nothing could be more exciting to them at that very moment!

I even got to make a special appearance. I rode in on a fire truck and everything! :-)

Farmington Jaycee Tree Lighting & Santa Visit

Miss Oakland County & Miss Farmington being jolly!

Much love for the Student Advisory Board members from SLS!

On Saturday 12/5 I attended the Farmington Jaycee Tree Lighting & Santa Visit at Governer Warner's Mansion in Farmington! I was asked to say a few words and lead the caroling at the very last minute--all I'll say about that is: Beyonce would have been proud of my caroling skills. I had a great time with Miss Farmington, Kayla Pingel. After the tree lighting we helped out Santa with his visits with kids.

Pontiac Holiday Extravanga Parade

Fran--this woman is wonderful!

On Saturay 12/5 I attended the Pontiac Holiday Extravaganza Parade in Pontiac. I was a part of the kid's festivities before the parade, which was a lot of fun! Then Haleigh & I got to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony and rode in a horse drawn carriage in the parade. We almost held up the entire parade too because we couldn't find our driver! It was very fun & chilly time in Pontiac this weekend!

Santa's Christmas Tree Village

Today I attended Santa's Christmas Tree Village in Rochester. Santa rode in on a fire truck for his grand entrance!

Inside, there was pictures with Santa, crafts for kids & thirteen trees decorated (very beautifully) by non-profit organizations from Rochester. All of the trees are being auctioned and the proceeds go toward the Lion's Club of Rochester. Santa's Christmas Tree Village is going on every weekend from now until December 21st--I'll be returning soon as Santa's Helper :-)

Hugs from Santa!

Miss America, Miss Michigan, and Little Miss Michigan!

The new Little Miss Michigan, Sabrina Jeffrey.

On Saturday 11/14 I attended a Miss America filled day in Muskegon. First Katie Stam, Miss America 2009 spoke for two hours in the morning. I was enthralled! Her journey was so interesting to me! Later in the day it was time for the Little Miss Michigan pageant--congrats to our winner, Sabrina Jeffrey. Then we got to see Nicole's wardrobe for Miss America--emceed by Katie Stam. Nicole looked confident and beautiful in her wardrobe. I can't wait to see her perform at Miss America!

24th Annual Student Leadership Conference

This weekend I've been invited to be a Conference Advisor and a guest speaker at the 24th Annual Student Leadership Conference in Bellaire, MI. There are nine high schools representing their own chapters of Students Leading Students. All of these students are dedicated to promoting healthy, positive lifestyles among their peers.

DAY ONE
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH
Today we had some meetings and got to know each other. I'm so excited for the conference! My main objective as a CA is maintaining safety of the students and integrity of the conference.
With the members of the Student Advisory Board.

DAY TWO
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH
Today was a fast-paced day filled with many interesting speakers, student presentations, and more! One speaker was Mike Skupin, who was on Survivor Australia. He had a great motivational presentation--then later in the day, he organized a bug/fish/animal cartilage eating contest.

Happy attacked Matt Marshmellow and myself...we weren't SLS inspirizzled enough!
Happy, the SLS mascot.

DAY THREE
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH
Today was also filled with guest speakers and activities. At night, there was a dinner where all of the advisors were honored, awards were presented and we listened to a few guest speakers. I had the honor of being one of those speakers. I really enjoyed addressing this group of high school students about my platform, Empowering Youth--which is the very thing this group is dedicated to doing! I had a great time at the conference this weekend--thank you to everyone at SLS for everything you do to encourage youth leadership!

Driving skills for life challenge!
